Pre NECC06 I posted on this blog a call for anyone who may be talking about ELGG. Jim responded in the positive ......so here I am this morning.....

ELGG: A solution for social networking
Aims:
  • Educational: To establish a community for teachers and students (an alternative to MySpace?)
  • Social: Access control important
  • Technical: Easy to set up and use
Uses of ELGG:
  • Public/provate communications
  • File sharing (including podcasting)
  • Teacher communities
  • Student portfolios
  • Online learning
Jim's demonstration: Very hard to see in the Sails Pavilion due to lighting problems.....but I can see/realise that the hyperlink connections and file sharing possibilities are very user friendly and support of the required learning environment I am looking at implementing at ISD.
Can apply tags to postings and pages! Excellent! Multi-dimensional using keywords.
Lots of flexibility with access control: files, folders files within folders......

Great demonstration Jim, thanks for your input.
