ANNOUNCING the first GLOBAL SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT from February 27 to March 1, 2014. This is an opportunity for students and educators to explore global issues and challenges that can be addressed through service learning and social entrepreneurship and to work together to design and implement sustainable actions and solutions. Julie Lindsay and Sharon Brown-Peters will lead student and educator teams to envision a new learning landscape that includes connections with extended community members with the aim of helping others in the world. "The efforts of the Connect All Schools consortium and like-minded programs, such as Flat Classroom, Edmodo, Twitter chats, Global Read Aloud Day, Skype in the Classroom, Microsoft's Partners in Learning, Global Classroom Scrapbook Project, and the Intel Teach Program, have vastly increased the diversity and number of students gaining global awareness and empathy beyond what would be possible through study abroad alone. Still, only small fraction of U.S. K-12 students currently have access to some kind of international experience, whether physical or virtual."
